Camps & Clinics

Institutional Camps or Clinics
Those owned and operated by Boise State University or an employee of Boise State University's Athletics Department, either on or off of Boise State University's campus, which are attended by prospects. The NCAA has certain requirements for Institutional Camps or Clinics

  • Institutional sports camps or clinics must be open to any and all entrants. The only permissible limitations may be by number, age, grade level, and/or gender.

Although interaction during sports camps or clinics between prospects and those coaches employed by the camp or clinic is not subject to the recruiting calendar restrictions, staff members employed at the camp or clinic are prohibited from recruiting any prospects during the time period that a camp or clinic is conducted. This includes extending verbal or written offers of financial aid during attendance at a camp or clinic.

  • Coaches who are not employed by an institutional camp or clinic, but who wish to observe prospects at the institutional camp or clinic, must adhere to appropriate recruiting contact and evaluation periods.
  • Institutional camps or clinics may not be conducted during a dead period.

Non-Institutional Camps
Sports camps or clinics that are owned or operated by an individual or organization not affiliated with Boise State University's Athletics Department. In sports other than basketball and football, an employee of Boise State University's Athletics Department is permitted to be involved with a non-institutional camp or clinic so long as:

  • The non-institutional camps or clinics are operated in accordance with restrictions applicable to institutional camps.
  • The camps or clinics are not sponsored or conducted by an individual or organization that provides recruiting or scouting services concerning prospects.
  • Employment is reported to the Boise State University Compliance Office.
  • In basketball, a Boise State University coach or non-coaching staff member may be employed only at Institutional basketball camps or clinics and only during the months of June, July, and August.
  • In football, participation by Boise State University coaches or non-coaching staff members in non-institutional, privately owned camps and clinics involving prospective student-athletes is limited to two designated periods of 15 consecutive days in the months of June and July.
  • In volleyball, a coach or non-coaching staff member may be employed at a non-institutional camp or clinic provided it is operated in accordance with restrictions applicable to institutional camps. However, it is not permissible for a Boise State University volleyball coach or non-coaching staff member with sport specific responsibilities to be employed at a non-institutional, privately owned camp or clinic that is conducted off the institution's campus during a quiet period.
  • Boise State University non-coaching staff members with department-wide responsibilities may present an education session at a non-institutional, privately owned camp or clinic provided they do not make a recruiting presentation.
